My first roll of film (Kodak Portra)

From summer to snow— I had no idea what to expect when shooting my first roll of film. In fact, I was kind of hesitant to begin. About two years ago I bought myself a Canon AE-1 off of Etsy and proudly toted that thing around Canada on an East Coast Canadian road trip I was taking with one of my best friends. Once I went to develop the film, I received a call that all of the photos were black (lol fail) and that it seemed to be an issue with the camera’s door not fully being able to close.

After this disappointment, my Canon AE-1 became a cool knick knack (I should probably just go get it fixed right?), and I swore off film. Flash forward to this summer! I saw an ad on Facebook marketplace for a Canon EOS rebel K2 and impulsively bought and picked it up that day. She threw in a couple of rolls (one being displayed below), and I was off on my new film adventure.

I shot this roll from Sept. 2020 to December 2020. Mike and I traveled and camped at Ricketts Glen State Park, we planted some basil in our violet infested backyard wonderland, camped at the KOA in Lancaster, adopted kittens (pictured is our boy Obi Wan) and experienced our first snow in South Philly.

Posting to be a starting point. I am challenging myself to expose both the failures and the yummy delicious photos in this roll. Here’s to growth and learning a new (and very cool) craft!
